Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions we can experience at some point in our lives. However, through counseling and treatment, you can recover the motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger with post-traumatic events. Together, we can work towards overcoming these symptoms and learn about the grief and healing process. I specialize in trauma with a sub-specialty in sexual abuse, working with victims and sexually abusive youth.
The modalities I use in working with trauma are Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Psychodynamics, Exposure Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Stress Inoculation Training, Present Centered Therapy, and Narrative Exposure Therapy.
I provide treatment services for maternal mood and anxiety disorders and paternal postnatal depression. In addition, I support couples grieving the loss of their baby during pregnancy (fetal demise). Together, we will work towards understanding the symptoms they are experiencing and learn about the grief and healing process.
Unmet expectations, lack of boundaries, and poor communication can create problems in your relationships. Whether the relationship you are struggling in is your marriage, family, friendships, in-laws, or co-workers, therapy can help. The key is whether you do the work and make the changes required to fix the relationship. Together we can identify negative patterns, and I will provide you with various tools to improve your relationships. But remember, couples therapy is only beneficial if you are committed to making the change and working together.
Children of all ages struggle with depression, anxiety, anger, or other harmful behaviors. Therapy helps them to name their feelings, recognize their emotions, and teaches them how to express them healthily. Teenagers can be especially difficult because they are at an age where they still need the support of their parents but desperately want to be independent. At the same time, they’re exploring their own identities and trying to discover their place in society. They may also behave in ways that can negatively affect their future, and you don’t know how to get through to them. Maybe you’ve been searching for ways to deal with your teen, hoping the behavior will change, but you can’t find anything that works. In this new world of social media, technology, and social norms, it’s easy to feel lost and confused by how your teenager deals with changes and challenges. Often teens have a whirlwind of emotions but do not seem to know how to express them appropriately. Therapy can guide them in navigating this stage of individualization, changes occurring around them, and learning to express their feelings and thoughts appropriately.
Therapy for men can include helping you work through rocky relationships, managing the sources of stress in life, and overcoming the effects of depression and anxiety. It can also involve dealing with anger, irritability, and non-medical sexual issues. In our society, men often feel pressure to be the best partner and/or father, which can lead to many complex issues. Therapy is essential because it helps you learn skills to work through these issues. Having someone to teach you coping skills, navigate how to express feelings, and communicate better is all part of the therapy journey. Finding the proper treatment will help you build durable wellness. In my practice, I employ multiple evidence-based practices. Each client has unique needs. Therefore, I do not limit our work to any single therapy modality. Usually, I blend a variety of techniques to create a customized approach for your treatment.
